Win a $100 Visa Gift Card
In this time of economic hardship, I’ve been trying to think of ways to help people
out but it’s very hard to do when I’m not wealthy myself. After much thought, I
remembered an old Okinawan tradition that started before banks were established
and still continues today. The best way to explain it would be to tell you how
my family does it. My mom meets with her 8 brothers and sisters once a month to
hang out. Sometimes they go drinking, sometimes they go eat good food, and
sometimes they meet at one of their houses and talk. When they meet, each
sibling puts 10,000 yen (about $100) into a pile. Then they write their names on
a sheet of paper and put that into a bowl. They pull out one name a month and
the person whose name is pulled wins the whole 90,000 yen. No one can win twice
in a row. Sometimes, the winner is not determined by a lottery but the money
goes to whoever is in the most need. Okinawans form these kinds of ‘moai’ groups
with people they trust and meet at regular intervals to give everyone a chance
to win. I want to give everyone out there a chance to be a part of a moai group.
Send me an email at lady.magick@yahoo.com if you would be willing to pay $1.00
via PayPal to be entered. Once I get enough people to make $100, I will send out
a PayPal invoice for everyone to pitch in $1 and I will announce a winner. I
want to have this group grow so that eventually I will be able to give out
several $100 Visa gift cards.
